Audrey closed her textbook with a defeated snap. School's barely started! She thought indignantly, and already I've got tons of homework. She slid her book back into her bag. It's O.W.L. year all over again, she grumbled as she pulled another, and hopefully much easier, assignment from her bag. But after a few moments of studying that she slammed it on the table in front of her, as frustrated and confused as before. she groaned, leaning back in her chair. What she wouldn't give to be able to forget her homework and enjoy the quickly dwindling beautiful autumn weather. But she had already put her homework of three nights in a row; any more and she would have to pull a few all-nighters to finish, assuming she finished at all. Her father, though a muggle, was always a stickler about getting good grades. He had graduated with a doctorates degree in psychology from Cambridge, so you could say Audrey felt pressured to do well.
With a sigh she pulled her homework back toward her, cursing her desire to please her father and her own self-motivation.
It was transfiguration homework, which usually she did okay with, but she kind of hadn't payed attention when Professor Mcgonagall had been explaining this material to them. She'd been...occupied with something else. He copy of Guide to Advanced Transfiguration hadn't been much help either, but perhaps there was something to be said about reading it for the fifteenth time.
Gradually Audrey added sentences to her paper, until she was at least half-way done. She looked down at what she had written. It wasn't at all up to her usually standard, well, it wasn't up to any recognizably good standard; but it was probably about as good as it was going to get. She tucked her half-completed essay neatly inside her schoolbook and carefully replaced it her bag, though a part of her wanted to shove it as far as it would go and never think of it again.
She wasn't going to get any father with it today, she would just half to finish it during breakfast tomorrow, or get up earlier. She quickly shook that disgusting thought away, she wasn't that desperate, yet.
Waking up earlier than eight, as well as going to bed before eleven were against Audrey's rules of life, as was getting her homework done on time, apparently.
She reached inside her bag, searching for another half-forgotten assignment; and hoping, against her better judgment, for a distraction.
