Roydon stared at the books that were piled to his eyes on his desk. His eyes bulged a bit. His predecessor had left a lot of unfinished work. He pulled his wand from the sleeve of his robes and flicked it with a flourish of the wrist. The books soared upward and outward to land one by one on each student's empty desk. There. One job done. He tucked his wand back into his deep blue robes and brushed a spare piece of lint off the sleeve. He turned and stroke his chin, staring at the chalkboard behind him. He supposed he would have to write on it using the muggle way.
Sighing, Roydon picked up the chalk and began to write in the curriculum for the year in thick white strokes with the chalk. He set this chalk down with a click and then rocked back on his heels, his hands clasped behind his back. He missed the Ministry. But they believed him to be a liability. Well, he would show them. He wouldn't attack any students here. At least not badly enough to get fired...
Roydon sighed and ran a hand over his short hair. He was only trying to help them by testing their awareness and preparedness. But no. It was seen as dangerous and unwelcome. Roydon made a face at the thought of his boss asking him to step down from his post and go to Hogwarts, where he could be watched more closely. He was a sore loser and this was the worst kind of losing. He felt like he was losing his sanity...
Roydon shook his head and decided to think of something more cheerier. Like, well, the disappearance of the third year girl. This would be a perfect opportunity to test the students and make them aware of the dangers the world posed. Too many students thought magic would solve everything, well, Roydon had been known to let loose and hit someone on occasion. Like anyone who messed with him and usually for no reason at all.
Sure, Roydon was seen around the school as slightly off kilter and someone to avoid if at all possible. Well, he may be that and a little more, but he would prove that he was also a good Auror and teacher and new how to defend himself from spells and verbal attacks to boot. Roydon clapped his hands, clearing them from the rest of the chalk dust and turned on his heel, his robes billowing out around him as he did so. He stopped on a pin and snapped into the ready stance of a soldier. Legs shoulder width apart, hands clasped behind back, chin up.
His eyes focused on a window in the back of the room and never strayed. Even when some of the first students began to trickle in. But his wand was at the ready for any perceived threats upon him or his students...
