BELLAMY S. HARPER HEY THERE, THEY CALL ME BELLA AND I'M CURRENTLY 17 YEARS OLD. I'M PART OF THE RAVENCLAW AND I'M A HALF-BLOOD. ------------------------------------------------- Nineteen Things You Didn’t Know About Bellamy SageThere are some things that Bellamy simply doesn't mention. They're little secrets, white lies, memories that she's tried to repress, and small bits of knowledge that she's greedily kept to herself. These are some of them. 1. The Sorting Hat took four and a half minutes to sort Bellamy. During this time it had difficulty deciding between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. It was only when Bellamy began to converse with the hat and inquired about its aptitude for such psychological testing - for that is what she saw it as - that the Hat hastily threw her into Ravenclaw house. 2. Her birth name is Bellamy Sage Okereke. 3. Unlike many other witches born into Muggle households, Bellamy didn't begin to exhibit signs of magic until late in her childhood. 4. When Bella was thirteen she buried a time capsule underneath a willow tree near the Black Lake. Four years later, she tried to find the old shoe box that she’d painstakingly decorated with feathers, technicoloured glitter glue, and the lyrics of her favourite songs. Despite surreptitiously searching for several days and wasting precious study time in the library researching locating spells, Bella couldn’t failed to retrieve the box. The thought of the time capsule being lost forever is nothing compared to her silent fear that the information she buried is now in someone else’s hands. 5. A large portion of her fifth year was spent drooling after Sirius Black, not that he’d ever know. Bella now thinks of him as a bit of a prat and rather envies his cool hair. If only she could get hers to look so effortlessly shiny and sleek. 6. Bella dreads the summer holidays, because she always spends the first month with her mother and step-father at their home in Cambridge. The city itself is rather beautiful and relaxing, but the atmosphere at home always alternates between tense and sickeningly contrived. Bella’s mother Nancy, a receptionist, did well for herself in marrying Dr Edmund Harper. The pair have two young children, William and Angelina, who complete their well-to-do, nuclear family. Although she’s a blood relative, Bella can’t help but feel that she is an unwelcome intruder in their family. 7. Sometimes Bella thinks that her problems with her mother and stepfather would vanish if, like her half-siblings, she were born a white Muggle. It’s then that she envies them. 8. While Binns puts most students to sleep, Bella finds his lectures on magical history quite interesting. 9. Even though Bellamy’s enjoys transfiguration, the idea of becoming an animagus has never appealed to her. This is because she’d probably transform into an unexciting creature, like a rat or a sloth. 10. Scotland Yard and the Auror Department both investigated Christopher Okereke’s death. The private investigator her Pure-Blooded paternal grandmother hired could not determine whether the cause of Christopher’s death was murder or suicide. Bella isn’t sure that she wants to know what the answer truly is. 11. Her first kiss was at some University student’s birthday party in Cambridge. She was too drunk to remember how it happened, but can still remember Michael Jenkins’ stubble scraping across her face as he leaned to kiss her. It was sloppy, wet, and entirely unromantic, but Bella is simply happy she’s gotten that ‘first kiss’ phase out of the way. 12. As a child, Bellamy’s favourite colour was green. Slytherin managed to kill her adoration for the colour. Now, she gravitates toward teal. It’s a compromise. 13. She doesn’t say Voldemort, despite knowing it’s just a name. A word. For some reason, Bella thinks that if she can avoid mentioning You-Know-Who, she can pretend that he doesn’t exist. Bella knows this is stupid, as the tension of an impending war is seeping through the walls of Hogwarts. 14. After Bellamy first displayed signs of magic at the age of nine, it was like a whole long awaited tide of magical power flowed through her. She couldn’t control her magic, but it was certainly there with her every day. Talk about a late bloomer. Nancy, who hadn’t known that Bellamy’s father was a wizard, did not take kindly to these developments. 15. Bella spent much of her third year researching beauty spells. It sounds like a petty pursuit for a Ravenclaw, but Bella doesn’t care. She needed to take care of that mono-brow she was growing. 16. Nancy McGowan met Dr Edmund Harper in a cobbled lane as she walked toward the local doctor’s surgery. Edmund was on his lunch break and Nancy was there to pick up Bellamy, who was receiving a psychological assessment because of her odd belief that she had ‘super powers’. When this late was recounted years later at Nancy and Edmund’s wedding – a censored version, of course, which omitted the reason Bellamy was at the doctors – Bellamy discovered that the reason her mother was so late to pick her up wasn’t traffic. It was because she’d been invited out to lunch by a handsome doctor. 17. The Ministry pamphlet regarding the Department of Mysteries and its intense application process is sitting under her bed in the Ravenclaw girls dorm. Bella doesn't know whether to pursue that dream with reckless abandon or whether she should pursue a more sensible career as a Healer. There's much less chance of St. Mungo's rejecting her, especially with her grades, and there's a need for more medical staff, given the political climate. At the moment, looking at working in the Department of Mysteries seems rather selfish when Bella considers the escalating magical violence that is occurring with You-Know-Who's rise. 18. Bella would prefer to read a textbook outside on a pleasant Spring day than to watch a Quidditch match. She only really attends the latter to support Ravenclaw and because she has friends on a few of the teams. 19. From the time Bella was nine until the time she recieved her Hogwarts letter and a visit from Professor McGonagall, Bellamy was quietly convinced that she really was insane. The intrusive visits to various psychiatrists and doctors specialising in childhood trauma trickled off when Bellamy pretended to be normal, like her Mum wanted her to be. This never stopped the fact that Bellamy knew she caused things to happen that other people couldn't. In order to investigate this strange phenomena, Bella spent a lot of time in various libraries, searching for information on sighted instances of the supernatural and on schizophrenia, which Dr Harper thought she might be displaying signs of. |
