She had been bouncing happily down the halls in anticipation waiting to go. To be honest, Dawn never believed that she was going to get the chance to go till her own last year and that was only if she could bribe someone to go with her. Nor would she have believed that she’d have find someone that Dawn actually liked. Not that she didn’t like people, she loved people, Dawn rarely hated anyone, there were a few exceptions to that rarely, but they deserved it. With Emmett, he had been her savior first, then they became friends. They had talked on numerous occasions, mostly outside by the lake, it seemed to be one of his favorite places to go, to Dawn it was okay, she liked the outside, but come winter she had warned him that he wasn’t going to see her. That is, wasn’t going to see her outside, Dawn + the outside during the dead of winter were never a friendly pair. They would likely compromise somehow, but right now that didn’t matter. She was going to the dance with probably the most heroic sweet boy that Dawn had ever known.
So when he asked her, it had welded a mass wave of emotions towards her. It didn’t help when he had kissed her. Feelings had exploded all over the proverbial canvas, and she had kissed him fiercely back. It was also the time where they had fallen asleep on the lawns, wrapped up in his grandmother’s blanket. Despite all of this Dawn also learned of his parents how they hurt him, both involuntarily through a vision she saw of a future event and a bruise she had seen on his chest. Though she had shown more than enough emotions when it came to these events, after she had left, it was something that Dawn couldn’t get out of her head, not only her thoughts were attacked, her worrying over what was going to happen to him and what had happened to him and her vision was constantly attacked by the future event she had seen. Dawn wouldn’t tell him that she had seen it on numerous occasions and it bothered her, it was one thing to see an event personally, but to have an event thrust into her mind, it always seemed to linger longer than actual events that she viewed personally, it was troubling to see especially when she thought so highly of Emmett. She wouldn’t tell him.
Dawn sat on the end of her bed, several others of her room-mates had left already for the ball, but for now she was all alone. She looked into the mirror that was across from her at her room-mates bedside. Her hair was in its general state, ribbon of curls that was all natural, she rarely did anything different when it came to her hair, it was too difficult to try and tame the hair when it wanted to be so curly. Dawn had pushed her bangs to the left side of her face, just fixing the last of the ringlets. As soon as she learned she was going to the dance she had written a letter to her mothers. When she had done that, her mother Alice had sent her several parcels with dress choices, Dawn finally chosen a pale pink dress with black lace accents, it looked so pretty, she couldn’t help to pick it, and choosing from her collection of accessories to match it. Standing up she brushed off the edges staring down at herself, she hoped she didn’t look awful. Now she had no choice, Dawn was supposed to meet Emmett. She wandered down the steps, looking around for Emmett, sighing that she had been early, she lingered closely against the door, covering her chest with her arms, looking down as she waited for him.

Things will never be the same To say Emmett was a little nervous was the understatement of the year. He had after all never had a date to a ball before. Oh he'd had a few dates up through the years but it had never been anything like this. He had just gone on dates this was different. This was Dawn, this was the girl who he had met in the library and since then had found himself falling for more and more every time they met. Every time he saw her he found her more wonderful, more gorgeous and more absolutely and totally amazing. Oh and she also already knew more about him than anyone he'd ever dated before. This was of course because she was a seer, and honestly she had seen the future about him and his parents and she'd seen the way they treated him, or the way they treat him every time he'd be around them. It had shocked her, and she'd been very upset about it all, but she hadn't recoiled and tried to get away from him. She had stayed around, talked, even comforted him a little even though she'd thought he was way too cold and calm about the whole situation.
Now here he was all getting ready for the big ball and he was feeling a little insecure. He looked at himself in the mirror and sighed, he had never been very confident about his looks, he'd heard his parents call him ugly and good for nothing enough times to where it had left a lasting impression and a lasting thought that maybe they were right, maybe he really just wasn't good looking or really good for anything. This was one of those moments where those insecurities just seemed to escalate and he was almost starting to feel a little panicky about the whole situation. A ball, oh Merlin, why had he asked her to go to the ball? He wouldn't be good enough for her, she would have been able to find herself someone so much better than him to go with. Yet despite all these insecurities he was dying to see her again, to see her all dressed up for the ball. With how wonderful he already thought her to be he was sure she would be absolutely stunning.
He frowned, adjusting his hat a little and pulling at the collar of his jacket. He'd decided to wear a hat, and a brown shirt underneath a plain black jacket. It was one of the few outfits he had that looked a little dressy. He didn't after all have a whole lot of things in general. His wardrobe was worn and small. He sighed once more and bit his lip, this was as good as it was going to get and he wasn't happy about it. Oh well at least he would get to see Dawn soon. Damn he was already a bit late, but he was so nervous and he just didn't know if he was ready for this. Oh he'd been to the bigger school events before but usually either alone or with a small group of friends. It wasn't the same as going with a date and his outfit had never bugged him before. He shook his head and headed for the door. This was not the time to give into insecurities. He had made a promise and he'd already made her wait for about ten minutes. No he needed to man up and go.
So soon he found himself walking down the stairs from the Ravenclaw tower, and the closer he got to the Great Hall the more nervous he became. By the time he could see the bottom of the stairs he could feel his heart pounding in his throat and even in his temples, oh not in the way it did when having a headache, just in the way it does when you're incredibly nervous. That's when he spotted Dawn in her absolutely wonderful attire. Oh how gorgeous she was, a wide smile broke out on his face as he got closer, even if he still probably looked a little nervous. He walked over to her and placed a small kiss to her lips. "Woah! Dawn you look absolutely gorgeous!" he said in an admiring sort of voice, taking a small step back again to look at her once more. She really just looked like an angel. "I'm so sorry I made you wait, I just, well I ran a bit behind today. Again I'm really sorry!"

Really Emmett would understand, there was no way that he was going to be all for this glamour and glitz, maybe he was mistaken that he really didn’t want to go to the ball with her. That was probably one of the most probable answers that Dawn could come up with. What did he want to do with her anyways? She was just some silly girl that he had become stuck with as a friend for one day at the library, and numerous occasions of them visiting at the lawns. Really none of that gave her any implications that he wanted to actually go to a ball with her, Emmett barely knew her, and how could it be so easy for him to accept her? To her, she was just strange peculiar, meant to be off on her own trying to figure out all that was going through her head at any given moment and hope that nothing that randomly passed through her mind was important. Though, from what she had gathered about Emmett, everything was so genuine when it came to him. One of the first people that she knew she could be honest with. It wouldn’t be fair if she ditched him and ran off to go hide simply because dancing wasn’t her thing, or even being seen dressed up. Besides time with Emmett was time well spent, she had real feelings toward him, ignoring them and hurting him wasn’t something that Dawn wanted to try and do.
Either way she had joked with him and said if his dancing was great then she’d be his girlfriend. Dawn didn’t actually mean it, not that she didn’t want to be his girlfriend, but if he truly wanted to date her, all he had to do was ask, she would never say no, not ever to Emmett. She had never dated before, how did boys go about asking anyways, she had at times seen males walk up to females and simply ask, other times they just kiss and they’re suddenly a official couple, did that really apply with them, were they already dating and she wasn’t even aware of it? They had kissed and that generally entailed feelings, something that Dawn knew that she had for one Cohen Emmett Bennett. If only her life could be simple, maybe she’d just assume they were a couple of some sort and see how it panned out, or didn’t pan out.
For now she was going to the dance with Emmett, going to enjoy herself even if she didn’t feel entirely comfortable in a dress like this one and maybe get a answer on if they were really a couple or if they were still a work in progress all viable things to be doing at Dawn’s first and probably only school dance. She stood against the wall watching the other students pile out into the gardens. Where was Emmett, did he get cold feet like she had been thinking of doing before she had actually started to stand? Or did he get hurt and she had to try and find him somewhere in the endless hallways. She was starting to think of places that she could maybe find him, one of which was outside on his grandmother’s blanket when she saw him coming. Dawn was beyond relieved, she was naturally a worry wart and knowing that he was okay now made the pit that had been growing inside her chest ebbed away. The only lingering feeling that was left behind was embarrassment that she had found herself back to being in a dress and now she was presented in front of him. What if he thought she looked awful? Though she believed that her appearance was more than satisfactory there was no telling with boys and what they thought of the pristine and proper that women placed on themselves for social events.
As soon as he was within inches he kissed her. Was that a coupley thing that people did? Or was that a, generic boy you look mighty fine I should place a hot one on your lips for the hell of it. Her cheeks flushed lightly, her eyes adverting away from him for a moment. ”Thanks Emmett.” |
he thought she looked pretty, the first ever compliment from a boy that she could recall. ”You cleaned up really nice yourself, I will steal that hat from you later.” she pointed up at his hat with a smile, few people wore hats any more, it was nice to see him wearing one. Gingerly she hugged him around the torso, trying to be careful of whatever bruising that may still linger. ”It’s okay, I’m just glad you’re okay. I got a bit worried.” releasing him she looked out at the garden. ”Last chance to change your mind about dancing.” Dawn smiled, reaching down and lacing her fingers with his. Things will never be the same He smiled a little as she laced her fingers with his. It felt nice to be holding hands like this, there was something about the way she did it that just made him feel incredibly warm and happy on the inside. A feeling that to him was completely unfamiliar. It was almost so overwhelming to feel such gentleness as she was showing him that he had to blink hurriedly a few times just to make sure he didn't start crying. It was odd, crying was something he only ever did when alone in his room back at home and it was something he hadn't expected to feel right then and almost took him by so much surprise that he failed to save the moment, almost but not quite. He thanked whatever forces out there that he'd managed to keep it from happening as he looked down at their joined hands and then back up at her sending her a warm smile.
"You're gonna steal my hat?" he asked with an amused smile, not sure if she was joking or not, but even if she wasn't he was going to let her steal it, there was just something about Dawn that made him want to do anything for her as long as it made her happy. It was a strange and foreign feeling to him and he wasn't entirely sure he understood what it meant at this point in time, but he liked it none the less. "Of course I'm alright, I'm always fine in the end. And it's not like anything weird is going to happen inside the school, this place is probably one of the most safe places ever. But I'm sorry I made you worry I really didn't mean for that to happen. It just took me a while to pick something to wear and uhm... yeah I know I'm not supposed to have issues with that.. being a guy and all but I don't often go to balls either you know?" he said, finding that once more he was rambling a little bit.
Thinking that he should probably shut up and just walk her into the gardens he slowly took a few steps in that direction, their joint hands guiding her towards the dance. "Of course I'm not going to back out of dancing.. I'm probably not very good at it, but I promised I'd give it a try and that's what I'm going to do. Besides what kind of ball date would I be if I didn't dance with you? I mean that's just rude" he said and smiled as they walked into the more crowded area of the gardens, it seemed a lot of people were already here and some people were even dancing already. Emmett knew that dancing would hurt more than it would likely be fun for him, but he was completely set on the fact that he needed to make this as much of an enjoyable dance for her as he possibly could. He didn't want to be a disappointment after all. He wanted to be a good date and maybe... just maybe if today went well, she'd want to go on more dates with him that wasn't to a school ball.
The thought of that had a soft smile spread on his face as he gently lead her over to the dance floor, grateful that the song just changed to a slow one so all he had to do was wrap his arms around her waist and sway slightly to the music, he had a fairly decent rhythmic sense, so at least this kind of dancing was something he did decently okay with, even though maybe the faster songs would be a little more challenging. He smiled a little at her, finding that he enjoyed the moment quite a lot, and that he probably would have wanted to swap this moment for anything else in the world. It was nice to feel somewhat normal for once, going to a ball with a beautiful girl and not having to worry about anything other than making this a fun night for her. No thinking about holidays or his parents or anything else. Which was also one of the reasons as to why he poured so much of his attention onto her. If he focused on her completely then he wouldn't have to think about the things that had happened right before school started and he would be able to for once actually relax fully and enjoy himself as well. He'd make sure this would be a night neither of them would forget, at least if he could manage to do so, at least he could hope that he'd be sufficient for that right?

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #800ca1 solid 8px; width: 400px; padding-right: 5px; padding-left: 5px; padding-top: 5px; padding-bottom: 5px;] It was a great feeling to being together with someone. Emmett was so warm and kind and they had talked and enjoyed so much together. Sure it was a bit silly to think so highly of a person that she barely knew, but Dawn felt like she knew him better than what most people would claim about some of the people that they talked to. They had bonded in the library when she had first met him and it continued to their talking on the lawns on his blanket. Dawn never felt closer to a person in her life. Emmett made her always feel like someone was looking out for her, instead of her having to be in constant worry over every little thing that was plaguing her, like Walden Macnair pushing her or calling her names like slime if she got into his way, or several other accounts of her life being made of suck. When she was with Emmett she never had to worry about anything like that, Dawn could finally be comfortable and not have to worry about someone coming out to get her, or to call her names, just spending with Emmett was enough for her to finally find something to be happy about and not drone on and hide from everyone, something that she had become accustomed to.
She nodded her head gently when she repeated her statement about stealing his hat. ”Why yes, it’s quite a top notch hat that you have there, but I think that it’ll fit your attire more than it would fit mine.” |
It wasn’t likely that she would actually steal his hat, it was just a random blurb that Dawn was telling him in a attempt to converse with him, she was nervous, Dawn didn’t go to dances, and even more so she didn’t even expect herself to ever find her way to one with a boy, if anything it would have been a event that she partook with a gal pal, someone that she could simply hang out with, not something nearly as romantic as it was turning out to be. Dawn made a face when he claimed that his school was one of the safest. Though Dawn had to agree it was one of the safest places to go to, but anything was possible when it came to the rising powers that were unfolding around them. She liked to remain positive, but something about the way that he said it, seemed to be foreshadowing events that were going to happen, that something was going to unfold. Though Dawn didn’t want to believe that anything bad was going to happen, it was possible and the more that she thought of it, the more that she felt that something terrible was going to happen. She giggled at his announcement at having trouble finding something to wear, Dawn understood the issue, and she had the same problem, somehow managing to find herself in the dress that she was wearing right this moment. ”Well you seemed to have done a great job at choosing your outfit, it’s quite smashing.” Dawn assured him. When he claimed that he wasn’t about to back out of dancing with her because it was rude she smiled. So she was going to have a chance to dance with Emmett, dance with a boy that she liked a lot. Though she was positive that neither of them had any type of skill with dancing, she could be assured that it would be fun anyways, they could laugh at their mistakes and enjoy the night, it wasn’t that often that they could attend a dance together, not with Emmett leaving at the end of next year and Dawn was going to be left behind lingering at school without him. Sure there was no telling what would happen between them when those sort of things happened, but Dawn wasn’t going to worry too much, this year was going to be different for a change, not the terrible experiences that she had gone through over the years, this year she had someone to spend with and enjoy herself. Their first event out together, no longer outside sitting on the grass, they were among their peers. He was taking her towards the gardens, her smile reaching her ears. ”Well I am so glad. I’ve been looking forward to this since you asked.” Dawn paused looking at him hopeful. ”Don’t worry about bad dancing, I dance like a troll. It’s just fun to try anyways. We can laugh at each other’s poor dancing and hope that our poor feet are spared too much damage.” she offered. She had danced before, but it was always to random songs playing in her home and her and her mother’s singing into hairbrushes as they pranced around the kitchen, singing like idiots. ”You’d have been a sensible date if you declined dancing, especially knowing I’m bad at it, but I suppose we’re throwing caution to the wind and simply going with whatever we’re being thrown.” Dawn looked around the gardens awed in the beauty that they had placed, tiny twinkling lights, tables and a band, this was going to be fun. She twisted and looked at Emmett, taking her free hand and placing it on his shoulder; Dawn gently released their entwined hands and held out her palm for him to take. [/div] notes : DANCE MEH PUPPETS!....
