All the geese have flown, I wish I was a hibernator elsie had aimed to complete her homework this morning (history of magic essay to be exact) but the glare of the sun lighting up the dark common room had been too distracting. it was hungry, eating up the majority of the room with its obnoxious light - fascinating how those little dots bounced off each other wasn’t it? she’d strayed far too long gazing in admiration, her fingers placed ahead as if to touch, though she didn’t actually. finally she’d simply decided it was much too glorious and bright this day to continue doing homework, so she’d headed out. the work could be done at any time, but this sun, it might not last. naturally, elsie could not picture herself anywhere but the outdoors because well, the weather simply implied that one needed to be outside to receive the full effect of its beauty. and the weather was right in that. everything about this day seemed to carry an optimistic purse, elsie could feel it in the air as soon as she’d stepped out, carrying her signature yellow notebook with her of course. her ears were in a rush to collect all the sounds overhead, and the wind whispered it as it hushed through the trees. well it could have been the wind, or else it could have been the raging foomies – but everyone knew foomies only came out at night anyway. they’d die from the sting of the afternoon sun. but even so, with the hush of the wind - or raging foomies in her ear – elsie found herself wandering the grounds of the castle aimlessly until her feet grew too tired, and she took a rest just outside the forest. it wasn’t really that she’d made very many plans for this day, she had a great length of time. so she sat pleasantly and stared at the trees for a while.
but something caught her attention between those trees, and elsie’s curiousity would not allow her to still sit and stare from far. she had a good hunch she needed to check it for herself, and elsie was nothing if she did not listen to these hunches. heck, why did people even get hunches in the first place if they didn’t bother to listen to them? she stood, walking towards the forest, the nearly silent crunches of her feet hitting the leaves the only noise she allowed herself to make. elsie couldn’t help but think there was an odd smell in this area of the forest, and as her eyes took in more of the setting, she saw what looked to be the nesting area of some sort of creature. she was barely letting out a breath now, the nest seeming to catch her breath in excitement. that – that looked exactly like the nest of a crumple-horned snorkacks. could that mean there was one that lived nearby? was it possible, here at hogwarts and elsie had been here for four years of his life already, having had no idea?! perhaps if she waited in the bushes, it would come by again to its nest… if she didn’t leave a trace of having been there. it would probably smell it on its nest if she went too close to the bed wouldn’t it? oh merlin, what if it had babies too! the sound of nearby movements caused elsie’s eyes to widen in anticipation, and she tiptoed to the nearest bush as fast as she could to get a good spot for viewing.
unfortunately, the next living thing she saw wasn’t a crumpled-horned snorkack however. TAG: TOTALLY OPEN ;]

i washed up, fixed up, picked up all my broken thingsEdgar usually wasn’t a busybody. He liked to keep to himself and not really be bothered with other people. It wasn’t like he disliked other people; it was more that he didn’t like to socialize though he thought that most people would have been scared of him as well. It was mostly because he was always so stern and serious most of the time, he could have been a professor or that was what the first years usually muttered. It didn’t help that he was also six foot, four and nearly too tall for everyone out there, not that he cared. Edgar was one that didn’t really care about anything, which really mean t that was he was emotionally detached form everything or so Amelia, his older sister, said. She was probably right too, considering was probably one of the most brilliant witches of her age or even of the century up to date. She was heading somewhere with her life, unlike him. Knowing Edgar, he would probably just become an auror to do boring desk work which he would have secretly enjoyed, but that was no matter for him now.
Combing a hand through his hair, he mumbled to himself about the dark forest and how it was actually not that dangerous at all. This was to say, of course, that he had never been in there himself but that was only because he was rather accustom to the common and dorm room, as well as the library more so than the outside. He wasn’t really one for being out of doors; though he certainly looked like it by the way he carried himself. He was a rather tall teenager, but still very toned and muscled – he guessed from lifting all of the books. He couldn’t help it really, he had to do a bit of light reading to catch up with it all and the librarian didn’t really seemed to mind since he would always put the books back where he found them, even if they were in disarray. He was rather loved by Pince, even though she hated students in general. It was strange but he would take it. He would really just smirk a bit and continue on his way.
Now today, he wasn’t really off to the Library, he had been all over the school looking for one girl in particular: Elsie Lovegood. Edgar had heard that she was looking for her earrings, which she had careless left in one of the shelves in the library. It was a wonder that he had even found them, he had just been looking through the bestiary and there they were. He had just been looking up things about Chimeras and such, if he hadn’t looked where he was playing books, he would have crushed them. Instead, he quickly pocketed them and set out to look for Elsie, which was hard than it seemed, especially since Hogwarts was so large. All the same, after a few talks with people he had found that she was near the forest, which was curious but he didn’t really mind it so much. Undressed but warm-blooded, Edgar sauntered over, looking for the girl.
When he had finally found her, he made a bit of a face. She was looking for something surely, so he kept his voice low enough not to frighten things off, “Elsie?” he said rather hoarsely, more than he had intended but he hadn’t spoken in sometime. Swallowing, he tried again, “Elsie.” he frowned, “What are you doing in the forest, first off.” he started before fishing through his pockets for the treasured item, “Also, I found your earrings.” he smirked, pulling out the small bath duck earrings which were a little worse for wear as they bounced around in his pocket with a few knuts but fine, nevertheless. All the geese have flown, I wish I was a hibernator elsie had always been a curious sort. she liked to constantly think of herself on some sort of adventure. a bit childish sure, but at least she never pretended to be anything otherwise. elsie could easily admit she didn’t always think the same as everyone else, but at the same time, she could easily admit that she wasn’t the strangest of the strange. what really was strange in the first place, and who decided everyone had a certain category to fill? elsie didn’t have to assign herself as strange or normal on each given day, she was elsie lovegood and this she would continue to be on everyday from the day she was first born. not strange, not normal, just elsie. she jumped a little as the footsteps appeared to her as a pair of shoes, and not (as she had hoped), four bright red paws. she heard the owner of the shoes call out her name, but unable to get a good look at who it was, she stuck out just a head from the bush and then the rest of her as she she hurriedly stood up. trying to untangle herself from the branches of the bush, but her legs took a bit longer than the rest of her to find the way out. it didn’t help that she was a naturally unbalanced person either. so, it was an odd half-step half-fall that elsie lovegood came out of that bush and onto the path right then.
straightening herself up, she finally allowed her eyes to carry over to edgar bones. ”ed?” her expression was politely surprised as she turned her head sideways towards him. he was definitely of the last people she’d have expected to find in the forbidden forest. wasn’t he a prefect? elsie couldn’t remember. she figured he might have come to tell her off for being in the forest either way. and then, as if on cue, he did frown and tell her off. she smiled pleasantly at him regardless, his frown not really bothering her in the slightest. ”looking for a crumple-horned snorkacks” she replied, her excitement noticeably enough on her features. ”I found their nest, I'm sure they’ll be nearby, I was waiting here for them, but you came instead--" she added, pointing towards the nest just a few steps farther into the forest. from where they stood, the majority of the ruffles and sticks gathered to be this nest were visible enough. her face brightened at the sight of the items in his hand, nearly squeaking in pleasure. ” thanks so much ed!” she called out as she nearly jumped over to him, taking the duck earrings gladly from his hands and reaching over to give him a hug in the process. stepping back, she happily popping the earrings back through her own ears one by one. ”where did you even find these, I’ve been looking everywhere. I’m glad the sign was put to some good use though”

i washed up, fixed up, picked up all my broken thingsEdgar would have been content with just sitting there and reading his book, in private. There wasn’t much he could do anyway. He was rather adamant about things when it came right down to it and he couldn’t be bothered with other people most of the time he would have rather them a bit more like himself. He couldn’t help himself very much when it came right now to it was actually rather strange considering all of the things that he had been through in the past seven years but he couldn’t help it he supposed. He hadn’t really done as much as he had wanted either; he was just trying to move along. Not really one for curiosity, Edgar had hardly, ever ventured outside of the dorm or the library and not at the edge of the forest as he was now. It wasn’t something would have done out of his own will but since he had to deliver something it was only right, he supposed. It was more of a quest for him now, if anything now but now that it was over he didn’t have to stay did he?
He shook his head a bit, looking towards her as she straightened. It was strange really. He could see the point in being outside if it was with someone that he liked in some way or another. Company always made it better when you were doing something that you weren’t exactly supposed to, especially since the dark forest was strictly off limits to all students. It was like breaking every rule that he had made for himself and the express rule that Dumbledore had set for them as well, and how he hated to cross that great man, though he was rather difficult to cross at times, he was sure. Actually, the thought scared him a bit, though that was only because he wasn’t a rule breaker at all. He would never be, or at least not by choice anyway. He would never do anything by choice when it went against his principles.
Even now, he felt wrong standing here with Elsie but he couldn’t actually do anything about it. He had been caught in this and there was no turning back now, especially since he had told people where he was heading. “You’re welcome.” Edgar nodded, looking toward Elsie with a half smile on his lips. “I found them in the library, between the books about Unicorns and the books about magical creatures that we don’t know a lot about.” he said, “I don’t exactly know how they ended up there, nearly crushed them when I was putting my books away. But… a Ravenclaw told me you were looking for them… and here we are.” he nodded, slipping his hands into his pockets, swaying a bit. He was just happy to help a friend, especially since she was so different than he was.
“Wait, what is a crumple-horned snorkack?” he muttered, knowing to keep his voice low since Elsie was. She was also so excited that he couldn’t exactly burst her bubble. He didn’t know what a crumple-horned snorkack was, let alone what it looked like but Elsie knew, or at least she thought she did. All the geese have flown, I wish I was a hibernator elsie wasn’t exactly a complete loner, at least, to be alone for her was always a choice. in all honesty, she had a decent number of friends, it was her herself that would not call upon them however. today for example, she had not planned anything to do because she had planned on finishing that history of magic essay. and then when she could not finish it, she had simply stepped outside. she had not planned on staying very long, so she did not ask anyone to join her, despite passing a few of her friends on her way out. she liked to be alone sometimes, on days like these where she had no plans and nothing to do but create her own adventures and find her own creatures, it just didn’t seem to be in her general thoughts to go out of her way to ask for company. besides, even elsie could admit, not as many people particularly enjoyed going on her animal hunts quite as much as she did – especially when a lot of the time, they would find very little. in this case, yes, she was often alone, but this did not mean that she didn’t enjoy the company of others, when she had it. she could tell though that edgar looked a tad uncomfortable from where she stood, and she could not tell whether or not he wanted to just give her the earrings back and leave again as soon as he did. the library, she nodded. ”of course” she replied solemnly, as if she herself had just remembered where she had left the earrings. ”I was there on Saturday,” she explained, though she knew that she probably didn’t need to elaborate much about why the earrings were there.
she couldn’t help but allow a grin to play upon her lips at his question. she loved these sorts of questions, though a lot of the time she had been receiving them in a more sarcastic way. unpleasant people, slytherins mostly, who liked to make fun of elsie and call her a loon. they asked questions, to which elsie would politely answer, thinking they actually wanted to learn about the creatures, but unfortunately, they only wanted to mock her and her beliefs. which wasn’t exactly what she would have liked to believe, actual curiosity. but ed didn’t seem to be saying it in the mocking way, this so far, was appreciated. ”they’re wee little things,” elsie spread her arms out to show him, about shoulder length and knee high. ”they have bright red paws but golden fur on their head and stomach, and two horns on each shoulder and on the top of their head. the horns are crumpled, sort of like a croissant, which is where they get their name” she added. ”they’ve only been seen once by the American travellers who brought them here by mistake, but it can’t be proven. so well.. my family’s kind of been hunting for them ever since” she finished, tilting her head slightly towards him.
elsie stepped back a few steps and pointed towards the nest behind a few trees. ”I think I’ve found their nesting grounds here, totally by accident, but I’ve been waiting for them to return, but you got here instead” she finished, turning her head back at him.

i washed up, fixed up, picked up all my broken thingsEdgar tried his best to be social but sometimes he couldn’t help but anything but. He wasn’t as outgoing as everyone thought he was from afar. He was terribly awkward and rather stark about things that he didn’t want anything to do with. Then again he was always stark about something or another. He wasn’t that much of a loner but he tried his best which was what counted in the end. It wasn’t like there was much for him to do anyway. He always liked to be by himself because it was quiet and quiet was what he liked out of everything else in the world. It was actually rather said because he was in one of the loudest houses, aside from Gryffindor, most of the time. There was always something going down in the common room and he wasn’t exactly the best at dealing with that. Most of the time he would just turn his heels and head back up the stairs to the dorm to bunk out in his bed for a little while longer, doing the rest of his homework and three years’ worth of reading for what time he spent up there. It was that or running to the library, hiding behind an enormous pile of books.
“Yeah, that would explain why it was there, then.” He nodded, looking towards Elsie with one of his sad attempts at a smile. He really didn’t want to ask why she had left them there or anything because he really wasn’t sure and, frankly, he didn’t care. He just wanted to be helpful to his friends even if it was something little likes returning something that they lost if he could find them. It wasn’t too bad at all. “Wee little things?” Edgar looked at her with a bit of a screwed up face. He couldn’t exactly sure if she was being serious or not, especially since he was just there to talk a bit but still. To his knowledge whatever she was describing didn’t exist and even more so they didn’t really seem real for what they were talking about at the moment. Edgar was almost certain that they didn’t exist but whole was he to actually say what did and didn’t, everyone called Elsie loony anyway so he saw no harm in letting her believe what she wanted even if it was against reason. It was actually nice to know someone with such imagination. “Ah, is that all?” he said staring at her a bit funnily, against his better judgment. He didn’t exactly believe her, considering it went against what he knew but still.
“Oh, a nest?” he muttered for a moment, thinking of what other magical creatures or even normal ones would make nests aside bees and birds. He tilted his head a bit and looked back at her with a shake of his head. “How big are they?” he muttered trying to get an accurate idea of what she though they actually might look like because to him, she had just described some weird cross between an Nundu, which were extremely dangerous and not native to Scotland and a Erumpent, which was also just as dangerous and not native. If either where her at Hogwarts, he would be very fascinated and scared, but mostly fascinated. “You’ve just been waiting here? Well, that must have been boring.” he said back to her, looking towards where she had pointed again.
